Background

Born in Michigan to Cuban parents, Maritza moved to Puerto Rico as an infant where she spent part of her childhood, later relocating to Florida as a teenager. Maritza attributes her eagerness to learn the English language as the driving force behind her becoming an avid reader and later developing excellent writing skills.

Upon graduating high school, she attended the local community college while working part time for the local city government where she stayed through her years in college. Upon graduating with a degree in Paralegal Studies she then started working full time. Later Maritza graduated (Magna Cum Laude) from Saint Leo University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Her many years of employment with the city government proved to be very rewarding. Through the years she "moved up the ladder" holding positions in the city's management office, the building department, and ultimately at the airport where she spent the last ten years of employment before retiring (at a very young age!).

While working at the airport Maritza held the position of Operations Manager, held the interim position of Acting Airport Manager for three years, and was also responsible for the establishment and development of a Foreign Trade Zone in the community, based at the airport. She was also responsible for bringing U.S. Customs to the airport, thereby converting the small local airport into an "international airport."

After 20 years of employment and having accomplished so much, she retired to start up a business with her husband, Manny. She currently not only helps with the administration of the family business, but also works from home as a freelance writer.

Maritza is married with two children. Her son, Wesley, attends the University of Florida and her daughter, Monica, is in middle school. She loves to travel and her daughter's horse shows often take her and the family all over the United States.
